TikTok Video Size and Dimensions: 2026 Cheat Sheet

Quick specs

  • Dimensions: 1080 x 1920 pixels (Full HD vertical). 720 x 1280 also works but looks softer.
  • Aspect ratio: 9:16 vertical. Square (1:1) and horizontal (16:9) videos are accepted but appear with black bars and lose screen space.
  • Formats: MP4 or MOV. MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio is the safest choice.
  • Frame rate: 30 fps is standard; 60 fps is fine for fast motion.

How long can a TikTok be?

Recording with the TikTok camera allows up to 10 minutes. Uploading a finished video allows longer videos, up to 60 minutes on many accounts, though the limit has rolled out gradually and may differ on yours. Check the upload screen in your app for the current limit.

Long does not mean better. Short videos are easier to watch to the end, and completion matters for reach. If you want to earn from the Creator Rewards Program, note that it only counts videos longer than one minute; see how much TikTok pays.

Maximum file size

TikTok does not publish one clear number, and third-party guides disagree. Commonly reported limits are about 287.6 MB for uploads from iPhone and about 72 MB from Android, with much larger files accepted on the desktop web uploader. If an upload fails, export again at 1080p with a moderate bitrate (around 8 to 12 Mbps is plenty for 1080p at 30 fps).

Safe zones: keep text away from the edges

TikTok covers parts of every video with its interface: the caption and username at the bottom, the like, comment and share buttons on the right, and the tabs at the top. As a rule of thumb:

  • Leave roughly the bottom 20 percent free of important text.
  • Leave a margin of about 120 to 150 pixels on the right side for the buttons.
  • Keep the top 10 to 15 percent clear of key details.

Put on-screen text in the middle area so it stays readable on every phone.

Profile picture and cover sizes

  • Profile picture: upload a square image of at least 200 x 200 pixels. It is shown as a circle, so keep faces and logos centered.
  • Video cover: covers use the same 9:16 frame as the video. Choose a frame with clear text in the middle so it reads well in your profile grid, which crops covers closer to 3:4.

Text limits worth knowing

  • Bio: 80 characters. Ideas in our TikTok bio guide, styling with the font generator and symbols.
  • Username: up to 24 characters, letters, numbers, underscores and periods. Try the username generator.
  • Caption: captions are long now (thousands of characters), but the first line is what people see, so lead with it.

Recommended export settings

  • Resolution 1080 x 1920, 9:16.
  • H.264, MP4, 30 fps (or 60 fps for fast action).
  • Bitrate around 8 to 12 Mbps; audio AAC at 128 to 256 kbps.
  • Upload over Wi-Fi so the app does not compress the file more than needed.

Specs change from time to time. If something here does not match what your app shows, trust the app.
