What TikTok coins are, and what they are worth

TikTok coins are a virtual currency you buy with real money. You can't spend them outside TikTok and you can't turn them back into cash. Their main use is sending gifts: during a LIVE, or on some videos, a viewer taps a gift such as a Rose or a Galaxy, and its price in coins leaves their balance. Coins can also be used for a few other features, such as promoting a video.

TikTok does not publish a fixed exchange rate for coins. The prices on this page are commonly observed US prices, so treat every dollar figure as an estimate.

Why coins cost more in the app than on the web

The same coins have two prices. Bought on the web at tiktok.com/coin, they cost roughly $0.0105 each, so 1,000 coins come to about $10.50. Bought inside the TikTok app on an iPhone or Android phone, they cost roughly $0.0145 to $0.015 each, or about $14.50 to $15 for 1,000. The difference mostly comes from app store fees, which Apple and Google charge on in-app purchases. If you buy coins often, buying on the web usually gets you more coins for the same money.

Prices also change with your country, local taxes and currency, and TikTok sometimes runs offers on coin packs.

How gifts become Diamonds and money for creators

When a viewer sends a gift, the creator does not receive the coins themselves. The gift is converted into Diamonds, a separate balance on the creator's account, and Diamonds can be withdrawn as money once the creator meets TikTok's requirements. TikTok keeps a share along the way. Creators commonly report ending up with roughly half of a gift's coin value, which works out to around $0.005 per coin.

So a Galaxy (1,000 coins) costs a viewer about $10.50 on the web, and the creator receives roughly $5 of it. A Rose (1 coin) is worth about half a cent to the creator. The exact payout depends on TikTok's current terms, the creator's region and any fees for withdrawing. For other ways creators earn, see how much TikTok pays or estimate it with the TikTok money calculator.

These numbers are approximate

Everything here is an estimate based on third-party observations, not official TikTok rates. Coin prices, gift prices and creator payouts differ by country and change over time. Before you buy coins, check the price on the purchase screen. Before you send a gift, check its price in the gift tray. If you are a creator, your Diamond balance and withdrawal screen show what you will actually receive.

Frequently asked questions

How much are 1,000 TikTok coins in USD?

About $10.50 if you buy them on the web at tiktok.com/coin, and about $14.50 to $15 if you buy them in the iPhone or Android app. TikTok publishes no official rate, and prices vary by country, tax and currency.

Why are TikTok coins cheaper on the web?

Purchases inside the app go through Apple or Google, which charge app store fees. Buying on tiktok.com/coin avoids most of that, so the same money usually buys more coins.

How much does a creator get from a TikTok gift?

Gifts are converted into Diamonds on the creator's account. Creators commonly report ending up with roughly half of the gift's coin value, around $0.005 per coin. A 1,000-coin Galaxy is therefore worth roughly $5 to the creator.

How much is a TikTok Universe or Lion gift worth?

A Lion is 29,999 coins, about $315 on the web. TikTok Universe is 44,999 coins in many regions (some list it at 34,999), about $470 on the web. The creator receives roughly half of that value. Check the gift tray for the current price in your region.

How much is a TikTok Diamond worth?

There is no official public rate. Creators commonly report about $0.005 per Diamond, with the final amount depending on TikTok's current terms, their region and withdrawal fees.

Can I turn TikTok coins back into money?

No. Coins can only be spent inside TikTok, mainly on gifts. Only creators can withdraw money, from the Diamonds they receive as gifts.
